VirtualBox VBOX_E_NOT_SUPPORTED Drive Resize Errorby on April 4 2012
Let’s say the drive is called “mydrive.vdi” and I want to resize to 8GB.
VBoxManage clonehd mydrive.vdi newdrive.vdi VBoxManage modifymedium --resize 8096 newdrive.vdi
Voilà! All done! You would now have a clone of your virtual drive now resized to 8GB.
To use your new drive, you’ll need to select it in your virtual machine’s profile. Start up VirtualBox. Select your machine from your list of machines. Click on settings to bring up the settings for your virtual machine. Click on Storage (1) and then select your drive (2) and finally, click on the Hard Disk icon to select another existing drive (3). This will bring up a file browser. Locate the new VDI file which you’ve created (newdrive.vdi in this example) and select it.
Once you’ve selected your new VDI drive file, your virtual machine’s profile should now display the new drive. See example below. Click OK to accept the new settings and you’re ready to launch your virtual machine.
Hope that was helpful.
